Abstract

Doctoral thesis Birth, consolidation and restructuring of the model of Antena3 describes how the first private television channel that constituted in Spain since its inception in 1989 until that was acquired by the Group of communication Planeta Agostini in 2003 has been managed. Several models of management, and business strategy, each marked by the change of shareholder of reference they can be distinguished during this period of time. In a first stage, between 1989 and 1992 the Group Godó, editor of the newspaper La Vanguardia, was the controlling shareholder until in 1992 it passed into the hands of the Group of communication Zeta and the Banesto Financial Corporation. The third period of management for the Telefónica Group who led the chain between 1997 and 2003, the date on which the communication Planeta Agostini Group purchased. This dissertation focuses on comprehensively describe all the actions undertaken by this management team that made it possible to move Antena 3 as one of the European chains with more economic losses to one of the greatest benefits. In each of the different stages of the company relate the strategies undertaken by each of the management teams in Antena 3 as well as the results obtained. And at the same time, and in parallel, described the evolution of the rest of the Spanish television sector competitors. To address the analysis of Antena 3 were considered references and documentaries of the sector. In addition, more than fifty managers and decision-makers of Antena 3 in each of its stages were interviewed and were surveyed a representative sample of employees to assess the changes introduced by the new management team. The dissertation concludes with the need for a shareholder stability to enable the implementation of a strategy based on the long term as the fundamental basis for the achievement of business objectives.
