Abstract
Benefit corporations have been established to create legal frameworks that enable the pursuit of both profit and public benefit. Different jurisdictions have required the inclusion of the public objective pursued by the organization in the corporate bylaws. However, a comparative analysis of United States, Italian and French legislation in this field reveals a persistent problem in the delimitation of the public purpose. To address this issue, certain guidelines are suggested that could be useful in future regulatory developments of these companies.
