Of National scope.

NEXTDIGIMEDIA - Artificial Intelligence in Digital Media in Spain: Models and Scenarios explores the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence on digital journalism within the Spanish media ecosystem. It is based on the hypothesis that AI is redefining content production, audience interaction, and the ethical frameworks of journalism through advanced tools for content creation, data analysis, and personalization.

Structured as a coordinated four-year project involving established research teams from the University of Navarra (project reference PID2024-156034OB-C21) and the University of Santiago de Compostela (PID2024-156034OB-C22), groups with over two decades of successful research collaboration, NEXTDIGIMEDIA combines comprehensive empirical research with scenario design methodologies, providing practical applications for the results.

The project comprises five main contributions:

  1. Identifying AI adoption models in Spanish digital media and their impact on content creation, verification, and distribution, as well as audience engagement.
  2. investigating the role of AI in the journalistic value chain, with an emphasis on efficiency and personalization.
  3. Examining the effects of AI on journalistic work dynamics;
  4. Evaluating the influence of AI on the quality of journalistic information and its impact on democracy, proposing ethical frameworks that address transparency, fairness, and trust.
  5. Designing scenarios to guide stakeholders toward the responsible integration of AI into journalistic practice.
