Abstract

The present study analyses the construct validity of the Self Description Questionnaire 1 in a Spanish context. The descriptive analyses of the items in the SDQ 1 display behaviour which is similar to that found using the English-Ianguage version, with the exception of two items from the scale 'relations with parents', which require a minor adjustment in translation. The reliability of the scales varies around values which are similar to those in the original studies carried out on this instrumento Both the EFA (Exploratory Factor Analysis) and the CFA (Confirmatory Factor Analysis) demonstrate extraordinarily good correspondence both to the proposed model, in the first-order factors analysed, and to the results obtained in Australia. The present study is thus of both practical and theoretical interest, and strengthens the empirical evidence for the hypothesised construct as this remains basically identical in a nonAnglo- American linguistic and cultural context.
