Abstract

The purpose of this work is to determine the cells of origin contributing to periretinal membranes in an experimental model of PVR developed with the association of the following factors: intravitreal injection of platelet-rich plasma, inflammation and vitreous alteration. Immunostaining was performed to detect glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP-a glial cell markerl, vimentin (a mesenchymal and immature glial cell marker) and cytokeratin (an epithelial cell marker). The findings of this work suggest that glial cells was present in the epiretinal and subretinal membranes.
