Resumen

Objective: To identify the needs presented by patients with chronic pain, how it affects their lives and to determine which therapies can improve pain control. Methods: Presentation of a clinical case, 81years old woman with venous ulcer associated with chronic pain that affects her well-being. A literature review was perform in PubMed, Cinhal, Cuiden and Dialnet databases, reaching the inclusion of 11 articles for their analysis. Results: Patients with chronic pain can see how their physical, psychological and social needs are altered. Some positive and negative influences on experience with the disease are identified. The existence of various non-farmacological effective therapies in controlling symptoms were checked. Conclusions: Chronic pain is a disease that affects the person holistically and could be addressed with complementary therapies, different to pharmacology.
