Resumen

Los trastornos del humor son los trastornos psiquiátricos más frecuentes en la población general. Suponen un importante problema de salud pública por su elevada prevalencia, el elevado impacto sociolaboral que producen y el perjuicio que causan en la salud física y psíquica de las personas que los sufren. Afectan especialmente a cuatro áreas: humor, actividad psicomotriz, cognitiva y somática. Las tasas actuales de remisión son altas, pero también lo son las tasas de recurrencia. El diagnóstico es clínico. Es preciso realizar el diagnóstico diferencial con otras enfermedades psiquiátricas y médicas.
