THE FUNDAMENTAL MORAL PHILOSOPHY OF PETER SINGER AND THE METHODOLOGY OF UTILITARIANISM #RESUMEN: The Fundamental Moral Philosophy of Peter singer and the Methodology of Utilitarianism. Amin John Abboud Ecclesiastical Faculty of Philosophy, university of Navarra (spain), 2006. Key words: Peter Singer, ethics, non-cognitivism, origin of ethics, intuitionism. The Fundamental Moral philosophy of Peter Singer and the Methodology of Útil itarianism. Amin John Abboud Ecclesiastical Faculty of Philosophy, university of Navarra (Spain), 2006. This thesis aimed to study the fundamental principies of the moral philosophy of Peter Singer as presented in bis books and journal articles. Peter singer is attributed as being thoroughly logical and consistent in his system. The aim was to verify the truth of tnis claim. Although Peter Singer vigorously reiected intuitionism, his key principie which he aimed to construct his moral philosophy upon- disinterestedness or point of view of the universé¬is intuitive in origin. similarly, like his mentor Richard Haré, following the Humean position, he acknowledges that he is a non-cognitivist, he at the same time aimed to be also a cognitivist. singer actively rejected subiectivism as a valid basis for an ethical system and yet on close inspection of nis system it is subjectivist in nature. He believed moral philosophy should actively utilize the knowledge provided by the other scienees, which he does in his search for the origins of ethics, yet when the data of Science change in this area, he does not modify his theories accordingly. In conclusion, Peter singer demonstrates a high degree of inconsistency and arbitrariness in his moral philosophy. Key words: Peter Singer, ethics, non-cognitivism, origin of ethics, intuitionism.
