Abstract

DOCTORAL THESIS ABSTRACT TITLE: THE TWILIGHT OF HUMANITY: THE TECHNOLOGICAL SINGULARITY AS THE END OF HISTORY AUTHOR: RAFAEL MONTERDE FERRANDO ABSTRACT: The purpose of this research is to clarify the possible philosophy of history present in transhumanist thought and the practical consequences of such a conception of human time. Transhumanism has in its anthropology and conception of history an interpretation of the emergence of human consciousness within the natural order and its consequent role within the development of the Universe and humanity. This interpretation subjects and reduces the historical destiny of the human being to a mere and pure temporal contingency within a cosmic process. This process justifies any technical action on human nature to radically transform it into the raw material with which to produce a transhumanity that overcomes the historical and biological situation of the human being. This overcoming requires a transvaluation of all human values, especially those that refer to the defense of human dignity. The following pages aim to think about the consequences of the philosophical-social project of transhumanism.
