Abstract

The issue of business and human rights became permanently implanted on the global policy agenda in the 1990s. The Human Rights Council approved in 2011 the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights: Implementing the United Nations “Protect, Respect and Remedy”. Its implementation has created a new Working Group on Business and Human Rights which will play a central role in order to provide a new international treaty on this matter. The great challenge, however, is to achieve the mandatory human rights requirements already assumed by the States for their companies, and also to their subsidiaries, including beyond its territorial jurisdiction
