Abstract

In recent years the research on biographical texts in the journalism studies has approached the question of the genre focusing on the second half of the 20th century (Hidalgo, 2004 or De Rosendo, 2010). This article goes back to the 30s and analyzes the biographical texts in three graphic magazines during the II Spanish Republic: Mundo Gráfico, Estampa and Crónica. The methodology has been the content analysis focus on the type of prominent figures and the stylistic characteristics of the biographical texts published in this epoch. After the analysis of these articles it is possible to conclude that the presence of the biographical texts were habitual in the graphic magazines of the II Republic and that through them the new spirit of the epoch is shown. Two big types of characters appear in them: prominent figures or stories of unknown people and, on the other hand, the women begin to lead biographical texts.
