Abstract
This paper explores, through a chronological framework that extends from the Late Middle Ages to the beginning of the Seventeenth century, the process by which the Kingdom of Navarre was divided into two, which became integrated into France and Spain. The consequences that it had for its elites, who had traditionally tended to settle in the peninsular Navarre, where the court resided, are underlined. The situation is illustrated by the example of one of these noble lineages, linked to the crown of the small kingdom.
