Résumé

Introduction. The assessment of quality of health care is crucial to implement improvement strategies. Objectives. 1) Assess patient satisfaction and explore nursing perception with nursing care 2) Compare the perceptions of patients and staff. 3) Identify areas for improvement. Material and Methods. Descriptive and prospective study. A questionnaire has been designed and piloted with 11 items grouped into three dimensions: affability, accessibility and ability to measure patients satisfaction. This adapted questionnaire was distributed to nursing staff and to patients, 24 hours before hospital discharge. Results. 133 questionnaires from patients (95,52%), 16 nurses (73%) and 6 auxiliaries (70%) have been collected. The average score of the overall assessment of patient satisfaction was 9.24, 8.50 for nurses and 8.16 for auxiliary. By dimensions, affability has been the best rated, with a mean of 3.91 for patient, 3.75 for nurses and 3.61 for assistants. There is a discrepancy in the patients perception of the identity of the nurse responsible for their care. Discharge information has been the worst rated item by nurses (3.56). Conclusions: Patient satisfaction and perception of staff are both positive. There was an agreement in the most positive items identified by the patient and staff. The identification of the nurse and discharge information was the issues prioritized as areas for improvement.
