Abstract

Cardiac pacing has been used for the treatment of symptomatic bradyarrhytmias, mostly sinus node dysfunction or advanced auriculoventricular conduction block. Technological advances have permitted the correction of rhythm and conduction disturbances by mode selection and algorithms that intend to simulate the natural function of the heart. Multiple clinical trials have assessed the efficacy and safety of different modes and favor atrial based stimulation modes, intrinsic AV conduction and the reduction unnecessary right ventricular pacing. Other conditions can benefit from the selection of specific modes.
