Abstract
Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutterAtrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia in clinical practice. It affects 1-2% of the general population and it is estimated that this prevalence will be doubled in the next 50 years due to the progressive aging of the population. Atrial fibrillation leads to an increased morbidity, mortality and health care costs, which makes necessary a prompt recognition and the implementation of adequate measures to control it. Atrial flutter is an atrial tachyarrhythmia often associated with atrial fibrillation. Treatment should be initiated early to prevent complications of this arrhythmia and it provides a high rate of effectiveness.
