Abstract

The book on consciousness of Juan Arana contains a good critique on the nu- merous attempts to naturalize consciousness and a suggestive proposal about the place of consciousness in nature or of the relation that has with it. But his theses find some difficulties that derive from the identification of philosophy of nature and modern science and of science with the discovery of laws. The notion of law becomes so important in this work that it conditions the notions of nature and consciousness and obscures the notion of cause, in particular the final cause, making difficult the comprehension of living beings and their affinity with consciousness. These difficulties appear clearly in the way of conceiving habits.
