Resumen

Objective: To know the existing evidence about the phenomenon of “knowing the patient” from the nurse’s perspective. Methods: A systematic review has been conducted in which nine studies were found. Results: After conducting a thematic analysis of the selected arti-cles, four themes were identified, which can help explain how the nurses’ experience in “knowing the patient” is. Conclusions: In addition to confirming the relevance and impact of the concept on the care process and patient health outcomes, the literature review has provided insight into what nurses know and how they know, as well as identifying facilitators and inhibitors of that knowledge which are mostly related to the nursing professional and the practice environment.
