Abstract

This research presents a description of the manufacturing environments that exist in the industry by studying 50 factories in order to identify the planning and scheduling needs of the industry. Two clusters of plants were found to describe the global planning needs of the industry. It was found that one group of plants had both production and planning capabilities to fulfill their demand while the other group lacked supporting tools for planning and scheduling whereas they fulfilled a very unstable demand.
