Abstract

The diagnosis of breast cancer and its initial surgical treatment are a stressful vital event that causes psychopathological difficulties and damage the patient's life quality. Deterioration in the conjugal relation takes place after the diagnosis of the cancer, being shown in a diminution of consensus, satisfaction and emotional expression in the spouse, and an increase the degree of dyadic cohesion. The patient's family does not show alterations under its structural conditions such as the cohesion and the adaptability during the first month after the diagnosis of the breast cancer. In relation to the psychological response and the patient's married adjustment, the conservative surgery has advantages in front of the radical surgery in the first later month to the diagnosis of the cancer.
