Autism spectrum disorders are a varied set of neurodevelopmental disorders that have their onset in the first stages of life with manifestations throughout life. The most important clinical characteristics are verbal and non-verbal communication abnormalities, social interaction problems, and repetitive and restricted interests and behaviors. They have clinical and functional implications as well as implications on loss of quality of life. Therefore, identifying them early is of vital importance in order to implement the necessary help for the patient and his/her family as soon as possible. Treatment is individualized. The treatment of choice in this case is psychotherapy and psychosocial support, both for the patient and his/her family. A pharmacological approach is also necessary for treating comorbidities, which occur in most cases (behavioral disorders, stiffness, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, among others).
