Abstract

This article examines the arrival of Opus Dei in eight Latin American countries –Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala, Peru, and Ecuador–between 1948 and 1956. It explores the background and factors that contributed tothis expansion, the institutional context during those years, and the diplomatic, academic, and ecclesiastical connections that either facilitated or hindered Opus Dei's activitiesin these countries. The article also investigates the similarities and differences among the individuals, both men and women, who played key rolesin this transnational expansion. The primary source for this study is the General Archive of the Prelature of Opus Dei (AGP) in Rome.
