Abstract
This paper looks into the psychological causes of violence practised in the name of religions, with the occasion of the document of the International Theological Commission: God the Trinity and the Unity of Humanity: Christian Monotheism and its Opposition to Violence. Against the dominant opinion, monotheisms favor the idea of truth and, therefore, the submission to rational criteria. The causes of violence in general, including religious violence, are rooted in the fear of losing power, which tends also to control other people. However, Christianity has radically transformed fear and desire for power.
