Abstract

Introduction Chronic or recurrent abdominal pain is a very common problem in clinical practice. It is defined as pain lasting more than three months. Aetiology The most common cause is the pathology of abdominal viscera, followed by referred pain from thoracic pathology. Diagnostic process It is essential a clinical approach with a good history and physical examination. The test must be oriented according to request diagnostic suspicion; these include abdominal ultrasound and CT. Sometimes it fails to identify an organic cause that justifies the patient's pathology, so it should be considered that it is a pain with a functional origin.
