Resumen

Introducción El estómago es el segmento del tracto gastrointestinal donde tienen inicio las principales funciones de secreción y digestión del tubo digestivo. Fisiopatología Sin embargo, la función gástrica más crítica e importante en la fisiología digestiva está dada por su actividad motora, que permite el almacenaje, el inicio del proceso de trituración, digestión y vaciamiento/progresión del alimento al resto de tracto digestivo. Alteraciones en este complejo proceso de coordinación pueden conducir a modificaciones en el vaciamiento gástrico. Gastroparesia Aunque existen patologías en las que tiene lugar una aceleración del vaciamiento gástrico, la disfunción motora por retardo es la que predomina y, por este motivo, es la que ocupa gran parte de esta revisión.
