Abstract
We present a retrospective study of 35 cases of Monteggia fracture-dislocation treated between the year 1990 and 2003. The results were satisfactory in 29 patients, intermediate in 4 cases and poor in the 2 remaining ones. Conclusions: Treatment of this injury must be orthopaedic in childhood. In the adults, on the contrary, the treatment must be surgical and to consist of a stable osteosynthesis of the fracture of the ulna with a DCP type plate. Reduction of the head of the radius dislocation must be always tried by orthopaedic methods since the results like that obtained are better. If it is not possible, the open reduction can be tried, avoiding providing that there is possible the resection of the radial head. On the other hand, diagnosis and treatment must fulfil early to be able to obtain a good functional result.
