Abstract

A comparative descriptive study is presented of the intrasurgical and postsurgical complications in 197 patients with femoral neck fracture treated by total hip arthroplasty (THA) or hemiarthroplasty (HAP). The rate of intrasurgical fractures was higher in the THA group (p = 0,038) and the stem loosening incidence was more elevated in the THA group (p = 0,001). The cardiovascular complications were more frequent in the HAP group (p = 0,021). Nomore statistically significant differences were founded in the other variables despite the mean age of the THA patients was 72,32 ± 13,898 and the mean age of the HAP patients was 85,89 ± 6,49 (p < 0,001).
