Abstract

The reduction in multimedia content production and distribution costs, due to Internet, new media and advances in capture devices and in the software used for its editing, gave a more direct and easy access to audiences. Content produced by users increased, characterized, in some cases, for its creativity and innovation, allowing to test new ideas and concepts. The paper presents, under different parameters, a qualified sample of audio podcasts created by Portuguese users. The sample was extracted based on the list of the 200 most popular audio podcasts in iTunes (Top Audio Podcasts), in two different dates of the year 2017. Data analysis demonstrates that contents included under fiction and entertainment category are the most popular. Contents are characterized by a freedom of expression, that could not fit into the editorial guidelines of a commercial or public media.
