Resumen

Within the contemporary world, the importance and influence of the sacred image in our life is evident, and, therefore, it is interesting to observe the evolution that has suffered throughout the twentieth century through the doors of the churches in Italy; and to see how the new avant-garde and the Second Vatican Council influenced in this architectural element. The sacred art is designed to make the faith understandable, and that this faith is assumed by man with beauty, starting from the premise that God is also reached through this beau- ty, in addition to truth and goodness. In this case, the contemporary artists responsible for materializing the faith of the twentieth century are divided into two main periods: period pre-conciliar (L. Fontana, G. Manzù, Giannino Castiglioni, Piero Brolis and Enrico Manfrini) and the period of the Second Vatican Council and post-conciliar (Emilio Greco, Venanzo Crocetti, Luciano Minguzzi and Giuseppe Pirrone).
