Abstract

Hypertensive states of pregnancy cover a wide range of pathologies of different severity with a common pathophysiology, placental insufficiency, which in turn produces systemic endothelial dysfunction. In this way, the clinical manifestations can be very varied. The diagnosis of preeclampsia is based on the association of arterial hypertension with proteinuria or alteration of the uterine arteries on Doppler ultrasonography. Regarding treatment, it focuses on blood pressure control with different pharmacological options, requiring frequent check-ups for both maternal and final well-being. Warning signs of progression to severe forms will always be reported and pregnancy will be terminated in the presence of complications, since termination of pregnancy is the definitive treatment of hypertensive states associated with pregnancy.
