Abstract

Musculoskeletal injuries are common in trauma patients. Although they do not usually put the patient’s life at risk, they can be life-threatening if they are associated with significant blood loss. When faced with a traumatic patient, the primary objective of prehospital care is to quickly detect injuries that may put the patient’s life at risk. Furthermore, determining the mechanism of injury and the energy involved will help us suspect the type of injury we may encounter. An evaluation will be performed following the XABCDE method and if there is no exsanguinating hemorrhage of the extremity, the musculoskeletal system will be studied in the secondary evaluation. After the specific management necessary depending on the type of injury, transfer to an appropriate hospital center will be prioritized for diagnosis and definitive treatment of the injuries involved.
