Resumen

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is an iatrogenic complication derived from ovarian stimulation treatments performed with assisted reproduction techniques. Although the etiology is not known, it is known that the presence of chorionic gonadotropin is necessary for the symptoms to occur. The pathophysiology is based on the increase in vascular permeability that occurs, generating a leak of fluid into the third space. There are a series of factors that increase the risk of developing the condition, in the face of which a series of measures must be carried out for prevention. In this regard, metformin and cabergoline have shown some evidence of efficacy in terms of reducing the incidence of severe forms. The symptoms are highly variable, from mild symptoms without systemic repercussions to severe forms that entail dysfunction of vital organs, including multiple organ failure.
