Abstract

The effect of a rainhow trout farm on the macroinvertebrate and fish fauna has been studied in the Urederra river (North of Spain), comparing their structure upstream and downstream the fish farm. The density of macroinvertebrates, specially collectors (Chironoinidae. Oligochaeta. Simuliidae) increased downstream probably due to the moderate organic matter contribution of the fish farm. A decrease in the number of fish, particulary in those smaller than 10 cm, was found.
