Abstract

The Fathers bear witness to the faith of the Church in the existence of a common priesthood held by every faithful. To highlight their teachings is a valid help to offer a Catholic doctrine, sheltered from the rejection of any distinction between common priesthood and ministerial priesthood, and from the denial of the existence of this common priesthood, extremes with fought each other in the context of the Reformation. The following pages aim to achieve this goal, based on some excellent presentations of synthesis already existing, and describe the thought of the Fathers on the root, on the existential exercise and on the liturgical fulfillment of the common priesthood.
