ALFONSO VARA-MIGUEL is an Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Navarra, where he teaches the courses Economics, Economic Journalism, and Final Year Project (Journalism degree) as well as Economics (Marketing degree). As a research member of @digitalunav, the research center of the School of Communication at the University of Navarra, his recent research has focused on issues related to the coverage of economic information and the development of new business models in the press sector. He has been involved in various research projects on the development of Spanish digital media, convergence processes, and journalistic integration. Since 2014, he has been a co-author of the design and analysis of the Digital News Report España, coordinated by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ) at the University of Oxford. Currently, he is a research member of the projects Resilient Media for Democracy in the Digital Age (ReMeD), funded by the European Commission under the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme (No. 101094742), and the Iberifier Plus project, co-funded by the European Commission in the DIGITAL-2023-DEPLOY-04 call, European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) – National and multinational hubs (ref. IBERIFIER Plus - 101158511). He is also a researcher in the project Digital Native Media in Spain: Typologies, Audiences, Trust Building, and Key Factors for Journalistic Sustainability (DIGINATIVEMEDIA 2), funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (ref. PID2021-122534OB-C22), within the State Program to Promote Scientific and Technical Research and its Transfer. Since 1997, he has directed the Economic Journalism Seminar, a pioneering program in Spain for the training of economic journalists.
