Doctor by the Universidad de Navarra with the thesis Himenópteros parásitos de la serie parasitica (chalcidoidea, mymaridae), relacionados con insectos plaga en el maíz de navarra 1997. Supervised by Dr. Rafael Jordana Butticaz.

He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biology (B.Sc. '91) and a Ph.D. in Biology and Environmental Sciences from the University of Navarra (Ph.D. '97), where he is an Full Professor of Zoology in the Department of Environmental Biology within the School of Sciences. Specializing in Entomology—the branch of Zoology devoted to insects—his primary research focuses on the biodiversity of springtails (Collembola), a key group of hexapods. He has published over 150 articles in this field and is recognized as a global authority on the group. Additionally, he collaborates on broader zoological topics and analytical methodologies, such as Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), with extensive publications spanning scientific journals, books, and book chapters. He teaches undergraduate courses in Biology and Environmental Sciences covering zoology and ecology, with an emphasis on faunal survey methods and human ecology. He also contributes to the Master’s Degree in Data Science for Experimental Sciences and the Master’s Degree in Sustainability at the University of Navarra. Furthermore, he is a co-designer and instructor for the Environment and Landscapes Program—an innovative field-based environmental education initiative—leading field expeditions to Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Panama. He is also an active science communicator on environmental issues. He currently serves as Head of the Department of Environmental Biology (School of Sciences), Curator of the Arthropod Collections at the Museum of Zoology, and Associate Director of the Science Museum at the University of Navarra. As Head of the Animal Identification Service (SIA), he possesses extensive experience consulting for industry and technology centres on applied zoology, including pest control, infestations, biomimetics, and general human-animal interactions.
