Doctor by the Universidad de Navarra with the thesis Estudio anatomico de las escamas, el operculo y el cleitro de los ciprinidos presentes en españa. Su valor taxonomico 1998. Supervised by Dr. M.Carmen Escala Urdapilleta.
Member of the Institute of Biodiversity and Environment of the University of Navarra. Currently, his research projects aim to analyse the implications of biodiversity knowledge for management and conservation in collaboration with some Latin American institutions. His main lines of research are hydrobiology and animal ecology in river ecosystems, aimed at evaluating the ecological status and managing and conserving biodiversity. He has worked in Bangladesh, Great Britain, California, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Ecuador in collaboration with local researchers. Founding member and treasurer since its origin of the Iberian Society of Ichthyology and member of the External Affairs Committee (2010-2016) and the International Fisheries Section of the American Fisheries Society. Coordinator of the Spanish Fish Charter (http://www.cartapiscicola.es). Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Department of Rural Development, Environment and Local Administration of the Government of Navarra since 2018. Member of the Spain Species Specialist Group of the IUCN since 2024.
