Doctor by the Universidad de Navarra with the thesis El romance navarro en documentos reales del Siglo XIV (1322-1349) 1993. Supervised by Dr. Carmen Saralegui Platero.

Carmela Pérez-Salazar is an Associate Professor of Spanish Language at the University of Navarra. She currently teaches in the Faculties of Philosophy and Letters, Education and Psychology, Sciences, and Law at the University of Navarra. She began her journey in the field of dialectology. Her doctoral thesis, "El romance navarro en documentos del siglo XIV (1322-1349)," published by the Government of Navarra, received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. In addition to dialectology and, more recently, sociolinguistics, which are present in her research trajectory, she has added new interests and perspectives: historical grammar, linguistic analysis of texts that capture spoken conceptual discourse, or manifestations of (dis)courtesy in various sources, primarily from the Golden Age. Her most recent publications address the diachronic study of phraseological units, particularly expressive pragmatic formulas of negation and rejection, in literary and non-literary sources. She has edited several collective works with prestigious publishers and is the author of more than 50 publications, including articles in indexed journals (SJR Q1 and Q2, JCI Q1) and book chapters from international publishers (SPI Q1). She has participated in over 40 national and international congresses and symposia. She has been an invited speaker and lecturer at scientific meetings. She has been part of the scientific committee for various conferences and symposia and the organizing committee for international congresses. She has been part of the research team for nine projects, three of which are from the R&D&I plan. She has supervised two doctoral theses and several Master's and Bachelor's final projects. Between 2002 and 2020, she was part of the Golden Age Research Group (GRISO). Since 2018, she has been the Coordinator of the Research Group on Orality (UNoral), and in 2021, she joined the Project for the Sociolinguistic Study of Spanish in Spain and America (PRESEEA) as the Coordinator of the PRESEEA-Pamplona team. She is also a member of the Thematic Network on conflict communication and mediation: interaction, relational links, and social cohesion – CoCoMInt (ref. RED2022-134123-T). She has continuously held academic management positions. Since 2020, she has been the Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Hispanic Philology.
