Abstract

Emile Durkheim is considered to be one of the main founders of the modern sociological theory. He is a member of the second generation of sociologists. Among his works, L�Éducation Morale occupies a prominent place. It is a reference work that seeks to stablish the elements that constitue social morality. According to Besnard, the L�Éducation Morale text, as we know today, was written during the academic year 1898-99. In this article we will discuss the importance of his work L�Éducation Morale, written more than a century ago, for the consolidation of the moral nature of social bond. We first state that the social bond is not political or utilitarian, but of a moral nature. This allows us to address the axes along which Durkheim�s social thought develops. The proposed task is clear: if Sociology derives from a moral disease, its purpose is to overcome it, and the goal is the moral reconstruction of the society. To achieve this, Durkheim ensures the interaction between Sociology and Education. Finally, the foundation of human praxis in the social context in which it operates leads, in durkheimian thought, to a theory of the social morality and moral education. This will allow us to address the link between the moral nature of the social bond and moral education on the one hand, and on the other, the elements of morality.
