Abstract

During last years, services for people with disabilities have used the Person as a reference, pretending to know what is desirable for him/her and make it possible, that is “to make desirable into possible”. The focus of the planning of support is the Person: a greater emphasis is put on making decisions of users or clients and, therefore, the need to consult them. Thus, the purpose of the Person Centered Planning (PCP) is to support people in the choices they make about their lives. Through the establishment of collaborative relationships between professionals and persons with disabilities assisting people to define and pursue a desirable future. The commitment of an organization aims to take this philosophy and this methodology will be more effective if prior knowledge of the professionals on the subject exists (eg., implicit theories about the PCP, importance given, or motivation to achieve this goal). Consequently, the aim of this study is to present a questionnaire to assess the perceptions, knowledge and attitudes of special education professionals to the PCP. The results of a pilot study (N=18) are shown, pointing out the importance of the perceptions of professionals in the design of proposals aimed at development of PCP in organizations.
