Resumen
Fever is a common manifestation in patients who undergo solid organ transplantation (SOT). It can be due to many different causes, both infectious and non-infectious. Despite the improvements in transplant medicine, infections continue to be an important cause of mortality in these patients. The type of infection and causative microorganism is highly dependent on the degree of immunosuppression, prophylactic treatment, history of infections and colonizations, and factors related to both the receptor and the donor which predispose to infection. The most common infections diagnosed in cases of fever of unknown origin are urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, bacteremias, and osteomyelitis, among others. Empirical treatment in these cases will be chosen according to the most probable localization of the infection, the type of transplantation, and the time of onset of the fever with respect to the time of transplantation.
