Resumen

Los trastornos del espectro autista son un conjunto heterogéneo de trastornos del neurodesarrollo de inicio en las primeras etapas de la vida, con manifestaciones a lo largo de ella. Las características clínicas más importantes son las alteraciones de la comunicación verbal y no verbal, los problemas de interacción social y los comportamientos de intereses repetitivos y restringidos. Tiene implicaciones tanto clínicas como funcionales y de pérdida de calidad de vida, por eso es de vital importancia poder identificarlo de forma precoz para implementar la ayuda necesaria lo antes posible para el paciente y su familia. El tratamiento es individualizado: la elección en este caso es la psicoterapia y el apoyo psicosocial, tanto para el paciente como para sus familias; siendo necesario el abordaje farmacológico para tratar las comorbilidades que en la mayoría de los casos presentan (alteraciones de conducta, rigidez, ansiedad, trastorno por déficit de atención e hiperactividad, entre otros).
