In Sources of Normativity, Korsgaard has characterized the notion of practical identity as “a description under which you value yourself”, and has argued for viewing humanity as an essential form of practical identity, based on the reflective endorsement of our nature implicit in every act of choice. To the extent that every act of choice entails the endorsement of a motive comprised of a sensible incentive and a rational principle, Korsgaard’s notion of practical identity can serve to articulate a thick conception of the self, useful to counteract usual critiques to Kant’s moral philosophy, as depending on a disembodied self....
