Abstract

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a difficult diagnosis disease, which is characterized by chronic and disproportionate pain. There is no confirmatory diagnostic test, but there are well-established clinical criteria (Budapest Criteria). We distinguish CRPS type I in which there is no peripheral nerve injury, CRPS type II in which there is peripheral nerve injury, and CRPS type III in which it does not meet all the criteria but is not well explained by another pathology. It is unknown how the different predisposing factors interact with each other, which is why a multidisciplinary therapeutic approach is required. That treatment fundamentally includes physiotherapy. Also, last research interest has focused on neuromodulation therapies, which shows encouraging results.
