Doctor by the Universidad de Navarra with the thesis Induccion in vivo de linfocitos t citotoxicos mediante peptidos sinteticos aplicacion a la infeccion por vih-1 1993. Supervised by Dr. Francisco Borras Cuesta.
Bachelor of Biological Sciences from the University of Navarra (1988), PhD in Sciences from the University of Navarra (1992). During my predoctoral and postdoctoral periods, I conducted research at Cochin Hospital and the Pasteur Institute in Paris. Since 1995, I have been a professor at the University of Navarra, where I was appointed Full Professor of Immunology in 2014. My scientific work has focused on immunology and the development of antiviral and antitumor immunotherapies. I have worked on characterizing mechanisms inducing cellular and humoral immune responses, developing cell therapies, and creating synthetic peptides as inhibitors of various biological processes. Additionally, I have developed vaccination methods that have been patented and transferred to the pharmaceutical industry. Since beginning my professional career in 1989, I have contributed to over 180 articles in international journals and more than 100 conference presentations. I have supervised 15 doctoral theses, five of which received the University of Navarra’s Extraordinary Doctorate Award, and I am co-inventor on 20 patents. I have participated in over 24 research projects funded by CYCIT, the Carlos III Health Institute, the European Union, the Government of Navarra, and private institutions, serving as the principal investigator on 18 of them.
