Abstract

Sustaining continuous improvement systems has been proven a very enduring task for companies. This difficulty or complexity is very much related with organizational support or context aspects such as the company’s culture or the people’s resistance to participate in these kind of systems. Engaging everyone in the organization into participating in the continuous improvement initiatives is still a challenge worth analyzing. In order to improve employee participation, it is important to understand people’s behavior inside the organization. This study presents the validation of a questionnaire to assess the main factors affecting employee participation in continuous improvement activities. The questionnaire assess employee’s individual perceptions about different organizational aspects related with continuous improvement as well as some aspects related to the context in which this participation occurs. Confirmatory factor analysis using EQS software was used to validate the measurement model. A sample of 387 workers from both industrial and service organizations was used. The benefits of using this as a diagnosis and assessment tool are presented.
